Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a flexible curriculum based on character and competence as well as creativity, established by the government starting from the 2022/2023 academic year at the elementary and secondary education levels. One of the main focuses in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum is the strengthening of literacy and numeracy as a fundamental foundation for students to understand various fields of knowledge. However, in practice, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at SD Negeri 1 Tonja still faces several challenges. Based on the initial observations and interviews with teachers, it was found that the students' literacy and numeracy levels are not yet fully optimal. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques thru observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed interactively thru data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at SD Negeri 1 Tonja has been conducted in a directed and adaptive manner thru student-centered learning. The strategies implemented include active learning methods such as True and False for literacy enhancement, problem-solving methods in numeracy learning, and the use of varied media and learning resources. This approach encourages active student involvement and enhances critical and analytical thinking skills. In its implementation, there are several obstacles, including differences in students' initial abilities, time constraints, teachers' readiness in developing teaching materials, optimization of facilities and infrastructure, and students' unstable learning motivation. The efforts made include reading habits, the use of reading journals, the application of contextual questions, the use of concrete media and educational games, as well as additional mentoring for students in need.
