Pandangan Tokoh Masyarakat Terhadap Pernikahan Di Bulan Suro Perspektif Hukum Islam

Abstract

This study explores the perception of local community leaders regarding marriage ceremonies held during the month of Suro (Muharram) in Mojoduwur village, Mojowarno sub-district, Jombang. Many Javanese communities, including in Mojoduwur, believe that Suro is an inauspicious time for weddings. This belief, rooted in cultural tradition, is often at odds with Islamic teachings. Using a qualitative descriptive method and the Maqashid Syariah approach, the research collected data through observation and interviews. Findings show a contrast between societal myths and Islamic legal perspectives. While community figures often maintain the tradition, Islamic scholars clarify that Islam does not prohibit marriage in any particular month. The research concludes that Islamic law prioritizes the fulfillment of marriage requirements over cultural taboos. The study highlights the need for religious education to correct misperceptions and align cultural practices with Islamic values.
