Technological advancements are driving school guidance and counseling services to transition toward digital-based services, which will directly give rise to new security risks regarding the privacy of sensitive student data. This study aims to systematically map the global research trends regarding counselor ethics in addressing this digital shift. The method used is bibliometric analysis, involving the collection of metadata from 129 Scopus-indexed journal articles published between 2021 and 2026. Co-occurrence and clustering analyses were conducted using the VOSviewer software. The results of the mapping visualized four main clusters; the red cluster specifically indicates a strong relationship between ethics, privacy, and counseling services. A temporal trend analysis (overlay visualization) revealed a noticeable shift in research trends-from a focus on online counseling during the pandemic toward challenges related to the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) and chatbots in educational services. Further literature density mapping indicates that privacy and practice guidelines tend to be less prominent compared to mental health and AI topics. The study’s conclusions emphasize that digital innovations in Guidance and Counseling services must not disregard the principle of confidentiality. Professional associations are strongly urged to promptly update their codes of ethics to specifically regulate informed consent procedures and limit the use of artificial intelligence (AI), thereby ensuring that clients’ trust in counselors remains secure.
