The practice of combining prayers (jamak shalat) by newlyweds during marriage contract ceremonies and wedding receptions is a phenomenon commonly found in society but has not been widely studied from the perspective of maqasid al-shari'ah. This study aims to analyze the legal status of combining prayers for brides and grooms and its relevance to the objectives of Islamic law, particularly within the framework of hifz al-din (preservation of religion) and raf'ul haraj (removal of hardship). This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical library research approach, examining the views of the four schools of Islamic jurisprudence regarding the conditions and causes permitting combined prayers, then analyzing them using the maqasid al-shari'ah theories of Al-Shatibi and Jasser Auda. The findings indicate that the busyness and emergency-like conditions experienced by brides and grooms on their wedding day can be categorized as a form of masyaqqah (hardship) that, from a maqasid perspective, may justify the rukhsah (concession) of combining prayers, provided it does not become a habitual neglect of performing prayers on time. Nevertheless, this permissibility is conditional and does not apply absolutely to every wedding procession, but must be measured according to the actual level of difficulty faced. This study recommends the need for contemporary fiqh munakahat education for prospective brides and grooms so that the practice of combining prayers is not misused as an unjustified convenience.
