Abstract

The development of the automotive industry in Indonesia has increased the demand for precise and functional motorcycle components. This study aims to design and manufacture a paddock chain adjuster for Honda motorcycles using the Pahl and Beitz design method and CNC machining. The Pahl and Beitz method was applied systematically through task clarification, concept design, embodiment design, and detailed design to ensure the product meets functional, technical, and manufacturability requirements. The produced chain adjuster demonstrated accurate dimensions, proper functionality, and the integration of a paddock pin as an added value compared to conventional products. Economic analysis showed a production cost of IDR 91,000 per unit and a selling price of IDR 150,000, resulting in a positive profit margin, while the Break Even Point (BEP) of 2.6 units indicated financial feasibility even at small production volumes. Raw material inventory can also be managed efficiently, with an Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) of 35 kg and a Reorder Point (ROP) of 3 kg. In conclusion, the paddock chain adjuster designed and manufactured using the Pahl and Beitz method and CNC machining is technically, functionally, and economically feasible and has the potential to enhance the competitiveness of local automotive spare parts.
