Abstract

Coastal Indonesia faces serious challenges in managing marine pollution, especially due to marine waste. This paper explores best practices in controlling marine waste in Indonesia and identifies future directions in efforts to prevent and mitigate coastal pollution. By analyzing current policies, regulations, and practices, the authors depict collaborative efforts between the government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector in reducing the impact of marine waste. Best practices include the use of advanced technology for monitoring and restoring coastal ecosystem, community-based waste management, and increasing public awareness of the importance of maintaining coastal cleanliness. Meanwhile, future directions involve the integration of sustainable solutions, such as developing environmentally friendly infrastructure, promoting green technology, and enhancing institutional capacity in handling marine waste. Emphasis on sustainable and inclusive approaches in managing coastal pollution is necessary to ensure long-term protection of Indonesia's marine environment. Research and innovation are continuously needed to address these complex challenges. Through cross-sector collaboration and active community participation, Indonesia can move towards an effective and sustainable marine waste management system, preserving the vitality of coastal ecosystems crucial for the welfare of the nation and its people.
