Abstract

The Minamata tragedy is a tragedy that is quite dark regarding how devastating the effects of heavy metals mercury if exposed to living things, especially humans. With the death toll reaching 32 people and 321 others rushed to the hospital and declared paralyzed, physically disabled. Even if we look at the previous years, 17,000 residents were declared physically disabled and also qualified due to exposure to heavy metals mercury. . This study aims to obtain a formulation of the problem and also an overview of how to manage heavy metal mercury waste so that it does not pollute the environment and expose the surrounding community to disease. Knowing that the impact is quite dangerous and can even reach the level of death, the management of heavy metal mercury waste must be done as optimally as possible.
