Abstract

Repeated pediatric chest radiographic imaging may increase radiation exposure and the workload of radiology services. This study aimed to identify the factors causing repeated radiographs and the efforts to reduce them at the Radiology Department of RS TK III dr. Soetarto. A quantitative observational method was used from January to March 2024, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving three radiographers. Data analysis included data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the factors contributing to repeated images were patient movement (45%), patient positioning (25%), exposure factors (15%), equipment errors (10%), and artifacts (5%). Patient movement was the predominant factor, reflecting the difficulty pediatric patients may have in maintaining the required position during examination. Efforts to reduce repeated examinations included the use of pediatric chest immobilization devices and communication and education for patients’ parents or families before the examination. Appropriate examination techniques, immobilization devices, and effective communication are expected to improve image quality and reduce repeated pediatric chest radiographs.
