Mountain foothills in Indonesia reflect how people adapt to geographical conditions and utilize local wisdom. This local wisdom is reflected, among others, in the technology of building and arranging settlements. These forms of settlements have unique characteristics that are often influenced by topographic factors, natural resources, and local cultural traditions. For example, the Settlement Pattern was formed because of the belief system where they chose to live near places of worship or around sendang or springs that are considered sacred so that this forms several kinds of settlement patterns at the foot of the mountain based on unique local wisdom.
