HUBUNGAN PERAN EDUCATOR PERAWAT DALAM DISCHARGE PLANNING DENGAN TINGKAT KEPATUHAN PASIEN RAWAT INAP UNTUK KONTROL DI MURNI TEGUH MEMORIAL HOSPITAL MEDAN

Background: Discharge planning is an important part of nursing care to prepare patients and families for continuing care after hospitalization. The nurse educator role may help patients understand medication, diet, treatment, and follow-up visits. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ educator role in discharge planning and inpatient compliance with follow-up control at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital, Medan. Methods: This observational analytical study used a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 75 patients from inpatient Room 7 West selected through purposive sampling. Data on the educator role were collected using a questionnaire, while follow-up compliance was obtained from medical records. Univariate analysis was conducted using frequency distributions and bivariate analysis using the Pearson Chi-square test at α = 0.05. Results: Most respondents rated the educator role as inadequate (43; 57.3%), while 32 (42.7%) rated it as good. Most respondents complied with follow-up control (60; 80.0%), while 15 (20.0%) did not. Compliance was 81.3% among respondents rating the educator role as good and 79.1% among those rating it as inadequate. The association was not statistically significant (χ² = 0.055; p = 0.815). Conclusion: This study did not identify a statistically significant relationship between the nurse educator role in discharge planning and follow-up control compliance. Strengthening discharge education, especially information on referral services and emergency care, remains important.
