Abstract

Tolerance education in elementary schools plays an important role in forming an attitude of mutual respect and appreciation for differences. This study aims to develop short story-based learning media using hand puppets as a tool in teaching tolerance to grade 3 students of SD Negeri Gajah II. The research method used is the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), with stages up to formative evaluation. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and interviews, and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.The results of the study showed that the use of hand puppets in learning can improve students' understanding and attitudes of tolerance. The results of the media and material validity test showed a very feasible category, while the pre-test and post-test results showed a significant increase in students' understanding of tolerance. In addition, students were more active and enthusiastic in learning because this media made the learning atmosphere more interactive and interesting.The conclusion of this study is that the development of short story-based tolerance learning media with hand puppets is effective in improving students' understanding and attitudes of tolerance. Therefore, this media is recommended for teachers as an alternative in character education learning in elementary schools.
