Abstract

This study analyzes the differences in the meaning of words in semantic and pragmatic contexts in communicating in the school environment. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, this study observed the interactions of 5th grade elementary school students in various communication situations and conducted interviews with students and teachers. The results of the study showed that students understand semantic meaning better than pragmatics, so misunderstandings often occur due to a lack of understanding of social and cultural contexts. Therefore, learning strategies that emphasize the use of language in various situations are needed to improve students' communication skills.
