The Charter of Medina, also known as the Constitutional Charter of Medina, is an agreement drafted by the Prophet Muhammad with the tribes and communities in Medina in 622 AD. This charter contains the principles of justice, freedom, and unity for all citizens of Medina, both Muslims and non-Muslims. In this article, we will discuss how the implementation of the principles of justice and freedom in the Charter of Medina can be the foundation for building a modern legal state. One of the main principles in the Charter of Medina is the principle of justice. The Prophet Muhammad emphasized the importance of fair treatment of all citizens of Medina regardless of religion, ethnicity, or social status. The Charter of Medina emphasized that all groups in society have the same rights and obligations. The implementation of the principle of justice in the Charter of Medina provides a strong foundation for creating a just and equitable society. Equality before the law and fair treatment for all citizens are the main principles in the Charter of Medina. The Medina Charter emphasizes that all citizens of Medina, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or social status, have equal rights before the law and are entitled to fair treatment. This principle aims to create a just, equitable society that respects individual human rights. Enforcing the principle of equality before the law and fair treatment in society has a positive impact on the sustainability of democracy. With equality before the law, all citizens have the same rights to receive legal protection and justice in a democratic system. This will prevent discrimination or abuse of power by the authorities.
