IMPLEMENTASI KEBIJAKAN PERPUSTAKAAN DAERAH DALAM UPAYA PENINGKATAN MINAT BACA MASYARAKAT

Abstract

Regional libraries are often underutilized as sources of knowledge and reading materials by local communities. Data shows that people's level of interest in reading is still low. This can be seen from the low number of visits to the library, lack of participation in literacy activities, and lack of book ownership at home. In response to this, the Palangka Raya City Library and Archives Service has several policies to increase interest in reading. This article aims to look at the implementation and performance of policies regarding libraries in an effort to increase people's interest in reading in Palangka Raya City. Data was collected through interviews, documentation and observation, and qualitative analysis was carried out using a descriptive approach. The results of the research obtained show that there are several factors that make the implementation and performance of policies regarding libraries in Palangka Raya City run well, namely competent human resources in the library sector, satisfactory service, adequate facilities and infrastructure. Increasing people's interest in reading can have a positive impact on local development, such as improving the quality of education, increasing community competitiveness, and increasing awareness of social and cultural issues.
