Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Melalui Workshop Pembuatan Eco-Enzyme Sebagai Solusi Pengelolaan Sampah Organik di Kelurahan Kebraon Surabaya

Abstract

The problem of managing household organic waste remains a challenge in urban areas because most organic waste has not been optimally utilized and is still mixed with other waste. Based on initial observation findings in Kebraon Village, Karangpilang District, Surabaya, the utilization of organic waste in the RW 01 and RW 02 areas is still not running optimally. Most people in both areas still dispose of organic waste with other household waste, resulting in its potential for utilization as a useful product is not optimal. This condition is the basis for the implementation of a community empowerment program through an eco-enzyme production workshop in RW 05, Kebraon Village, which was chosen as the implementation location because it has community readiness and support from the regional administrators to become a pilot project for organic waste management education. This activity is part of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) of Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya which aims to increase the knowledge, skills, and awareness of the community in processing household organic waste into useful and environmentally friendly products. The method used is a participatory strategy with a qualitative descriptive design through the stages of observing community needs, education, practicing eco-enzyme production, mentoring, and assessment through documentation and field observations. The results of the activity showed an increase in public understanding of the importance of sorting organic waste, improved participant skills in making eco-enzymes according to procedures, and a growing spirit of active participation and mutual cooperation during the workshop. In addition to contributing to reducing the potential for organic waste accumulation, this activity also encouraged the development of more sustainable waste management behaviors at the household level. Therefore, the eco-enzyme-making workshop proved to be an effective educational tool in increasing community capacity and supporting community-based environmental management.
